Women's Lives in Korean Literature

Join us for a literary conversation with acclaimed author Kim Yudam.

Women writers from South Korea have gripped the nation and the world with their powerful storytelling. In 2024, the Nobel Prize in literature went to Han Kang, the first Korean and the first Asian woman to receive this honour. A historic moment, it brought recognition to a country that is home to many extraordinary female authors.  Kim Yudam is one such author, writing about the complex lives of modern women in thoughtful, emotive prose. In this special event, she joins Aditi Dubey to discuss many celebrated works by female Korean authors, her own writings, and the importance of stories by and of women.

About Kim Yudam

Kim Yudam is a South Korean novelist whose fiction explores themes of care, gender, and social precarity through both literary realism and speculative imagination. She made her literary debut in 2016 with the short story “Pin Carry,” which won the Seoul Shinmun New Year’s Literary Contest. Her short story collections include Tambourine (2019) and Caring Mind (2022). She is also the author of Women at Ease (2021), No Curtain Call for Me (2022), and the speculative novella Space M (2024). She has received the Shin Dong-yup Literary Award and the Kim Yujeong Literary Award.
