Women's Self-Defence Workshop | Saturday 5th April| Northern Beaches Community Hall | 24 Wallace Street, Bucasia

Join renowned, local martial arts specialist and certified fourth degree black belt in Karate, Helle Smith, for a 2 hour Introduction to Women's Self Defence Workshop. During this workshop you will learn the introductory theoretical and practical foundations of women's self-defence. Whilst this session involves physical participation, you do not need to be a certain level of 'fitness' or 'strength' to participate. This is an inclusive workshop where Helle will tailor the session to meet your needs so that you leave the session feeling more confident about your personal safety.

This 2 hour introductory course will provide insight into the comprehensive 2 day Women's Self-Defence workshop which Helle will coordinate in May, 2025. The comprehensive course in May is an in-depth program designed to empower women with the confidence, knowledge and skills to protect themself.

Cost: $5.00 per person

This community event is subsidized by the Northern Beaches Community Network & Mackay Northern Beaches Lions Club via a Mackay Regional Council Community Impact Grant. This event is part of the 2025 Northern Beaches Community Wellbeing Series.

Time: 9:00am - 11:00am Workshop + Light Morning Tea to Follow

Please bring: Waterbottle, Pen & Paper

Attire: We recommend wearing cool and comfortable clothing suitable for movement / physical activity

Participants: This event is suitable for women 16 years and older. Helle currently has students up to 85 years of age in her Karate Dojo.

This workshop is coordinated by Helle Smith. Helle is a certified fourth degree black belt in Karate, with 26 years experience. She is a registered secondary teacher with blue card credentials + senior first aid and CPR. Helle is also the Sensei of Northern Beaches Shito - Ryu Karate Dojo.
