Women Weaving Stories with Song: Christine Venner-Westaway

Some voices carry a whole life in them. Christine Venner-Westaway is one of those voices.

A peace activist and beloved figure in Brisbane's folk community, Christine is known for her pure tone and deeply felt storytelling through song. She has long been a favourite at local folk clubs and house concerts, where her Joan Baez Tribute leaves audiences quietly moved. She is also a member of the Brisbane Threshold Singers, who offer the gift of live song to people in the final stages of life and to those crossing other significant life thresholds.

Christine was part of the original conversations that helped birth Womenspace itself, making her a deeply meaningful presence in this series.

At barely 17, she stepped onto a road less travelled, one that shaped her relationship with music, community, and what it means to live by your values. On 19 April, she will share reflections from that journey, woven through with some of her folkie favourites.

Women Weaving Stories with Song is a monthly series from Womenspace Sandgate, held on the third Sunday of each month. Each month, a different female artist takes the stage to share her story and her soul through live performance. Across the series, expect a rich diversity of voices, ages, and cultures.
