To celebrate International Day of the Girl, the Zonta Club of Cradle Coast invites you to the second event in our Women Who Lead speaker and networking series: You Can't Be What You Can't See – Women in STEM.

Join us at the UTAS Makers Space in Burnie for an inspiring panel conversation featuring three women whose careers show just how diverse a future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics can be.

Meet our panellists

Sallie Moore-Wood is a senior leader with three decades of experience across government, specialising in technology, digital transformation, governance and organisational change. Now a Director of Corporate Services at Waratah-Wynyard Council, Sallie is passionate about encouraging women to recognise the value of their own experiences and step confidently into spaces where they may not always see themselves represented.

Kylie Lunson is Executive Manager at Devonport City Council, with more than three decades of experience across local government, infrastructure and development services. Kylie began her career as a trainee draftsperson while completing a Diploma of Civil Engineering and has progressed through a range of senior leadership roles.

Brittany Trubody is a Tasmanian-born astrophysicist, Oxford historian, palaeontologist, planetarium builder, ABC Radio personality and Tasmanian STEM Communicator of the Year.

You can't be what you can't see

Through a facilitated panel discussion and audience Q&A, we'll explore career journeys, representation, challenges, opportunities and what we can do to encourage more girls and young women to see STEM as a place where they belong.

Importantly, our panellists demonstrate that there is no single pathway into STEM. Careers don't have to follow a straight line, and STEM isn't limited to laboratories, coding or hard hats. Curiosity, creativity, communication and problem-solving all have a place. Sallie's own career, for example, has been shaped by a non-linear pathway and a belief that successful technology leadership is about much more than technical expertise.

Following the panel, stay for pizza, refreshments and informal networking with our speakers and other guests.

We particularly encourage girls and young women, secondary and tertiary students, parents, educators and women already working in or considering STEM careers to join us.

About Women Who Lead

Women Who Lead is a speaker and networking series presented by the Zonta Club of Cradle Coast, celebrating women who are shaping our region through leadership, innovation and service.

The series creates opportunities for women to connect, learn from one another and build meaningful professional and community relationships, while raising awareness of Zonta's work to build a better world for women and girls.

Our inaugural event in Penguin attracted around 25 guests, and we're excited to bring Women Who Lead to Burnie for this special celebration of International Day of the Girl.
