IWD Event - Women Who Ruled the World - Interview with Queenie Chan
Event description
Women Who Ruled the World
The greatest Queens in history, from across the globe, who ruled as Kings did, in their own right. Â
Who were they, and how did they achieve this seemingly impossible feat? Â
This talk with comic book writer-artist and researcher Queenie Chan will answer this question, as she will discuss "Women Who Were Kings", a series of biographical young adult graphic novel on famous historical queens.
Going from the sands of Ancient Egypt and its greatest female pharaoh Hatshepsut, to the central plains of Tang Dynasty China and its sole female Emperor Wu Zetian, to Queen Elizabeth I of England, this talk will give you insight into how these women gained control of an Empire, what the socio-political conditions of the time were, and how they kept their thrones till their (peaceful) deaths. The success of these women across time, culture and distance proves that women are just as interested in power and politics as men have always been.
