Meet Our Presenters
Graham Prichard
Graham has an encyclopaedic knowledge of wetland plants. In 2008 he wrote a field guide describing 100 species of wetland plants found along the NSW coast. He followed up with a revised Wetland Plants of the NSW Coastal Region book featuring 200 species of plants. This book was published by Tocal in 2025 from their bookstore. Graham’s passion for wetland plants started more than 30 years ago, when he was raising green tree frog tadpoles and successfully grew 14 species of wetland plants in a small plastic basin. From this auspicious start, he went on to build a career in horticulture, arboriculture, natural asset management and invasive species management. Graham is currently a planning arborist for the City of Newcastle and has worked in various environmental roles at Lake Macquarie City Council and Port Stephens Council.
Geoff Nicholls
Geoff will give a presentation on wetland weeds. Geoff has certificates in Urban Horticulture (1991) and Bush Regeneration. (1994). He began volunteering at Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia in 1988, and was employed as a general assistant in 1990, later becoming site foreman and site manager. Geoff returned as a volunteer in 2014. Since then, he has served as a duty officer and bush regeneration team leader. He is an experienced guide, student mentor and is a regular contributor to HWCA’s newsletter, “The Wetlander.”
Carolyn Gillard
Carolyn will join us as a leader for the field tour. Carolyn taught K – Y12 Wetland Ecology; Environmental Education and Aboriginal Studies for the NSW Department of Education and Training for 22 years at the Wetlands Environmental Education Centre. In 2008, she was awarded Life Member of the Australian Plant Society NSW, and has been a partner in C & J Horticultural Consultants and Landscape Design for 20 years.
