Four writers. Four weeks in the studio. One evening to share what emerged. Join us for an intimate reading night at WonderPlay Studio — new work, in progress, read live.

This is not a polished premiere.

It is something rarer — the chance to hear new work while it is still breathing.

Over four weeks at WonderPlay Studio, four writers have been given time, space, and dramaturgical support to develop stories they believe in. On Monday 1 June, they share what they've made.

Expect excerpts. Expect rawness. Expect work that is genuinely in the process of becoming something.

The writers and their work

Jess Turner — Memory Lane A two-hander about love, grief, and the afterlife of intimate relationships. Two people. Ordinary domestic moments. And something the audience will come to understand gradually.

Monique Kalmar — Lice Queen A character-driven story set in a North Shore pharmacy, where a South Asian-Australian pharmacist and her protege find themselves at the centre of something much larger than a prescription.

Augusta Supple — Three Reasons Why A suburban black comedy set in Western Sydney. A group of people bound by family, history, and poor choices, asking one question: can we ever truly be free from where we come from?

Jai Sahota — Trifecta Squad An occker Australian episodic comedy that crashes Bollywood melodrama into Mean Girls and Shakespeare — and somehow makes it work. A story about friendship, chaos.

The evening

Doors open 6pm. Readings begin 6.30pm. We'll be done by 8.30pm.

Nibbles and drinks provided.

This is an evening for writers, for industry people, for friends, for family, and for anyone who is curious about stories that are still finding their shape.

Tickets are free.

If you'd like to contribute something toward the costs of the evening, there'll be an option to do so when you register. Any amount is welcome and nothing is expected.
