DESIGN AND BUILD - COOL STOOL

with MATHILDE POLMARD

Following on from our very popular Introduction to the Wood Workshop series, we've designed the content to provide you with the opportunity to practice woodwork skills as well as learn new ones, by making a stool.

The principles learnt can be applied to other wood working projects, such as boxes or shelves, and is suitable for women who want to continue their journey into the world of woodwork after completing our 'Intro' series.

It is an opportunity to be both creative whilst learning and embedding skills, in a supportive and friendly women-only environment at our unrivalled extensive central Auckland workshop.

Tools and machinery available to use include the circular saw, dropsaw, benchsaw, router, planer/thicknesser, jigsaws, drill press, electric and hand planes, sanders, etc.

Dates for this series (Thursdays 6.15-8.15 pm):

Wk 1 - 27th Feb

Wk 2 - 4th May

Wk 3 - 11th May

Wk 4 - 18th May

Week 1. Designing and planning...

Skills include timber selection (soft, hard, engineered or recycled), designs, plus practicing using a router and biscuit jointer

Week 2. Preparing and cutting your timber...

includes how to measure and cut your timber accurately to size

Week 3. Pretty stuff and assembly...

carrying on cutting timber, practice some cutouts, edge details and sanding if required and starting to assemble

Week 4. The 'I made that' moment

assembling and finishing options so you can feel proud to say to your family and friends, 'I made that!'

What to expect:

Each class is for 2 hrs

All workshop PPE (eye, ear, respiratory protection) will be available but we recommend to bring your own respiratory protection

After planning and practise in week 1, you will need to provide your own materials in week 2.

Max of 6 people per workshop (minimum of 4 to run)

Mathilde is a spatial designer by day and a keen 'maker' by night... well usually the evenings actually. With experience in cabinet making and often taking on commissioned projects, she loves sharing her skills and knowledge with other women so they too can become confident and enjoy the empowerment of having woodworking skills.
