For those who want to grasp a more in-depth understanding of the woodfiring experience, we are offering the opportunity to participate in our July 24 firing at Middle Pocket Pottery.

The experience will include the opportunity to participate in…

Day 1. Identifying timber, collecting and gathering of wood, tuition and practical experience splitting, storing and stacking specifically for the wood kiln. Discussion on forms and sizes suited for the wood kiln. Discussion on glazing, wadding and pot preparation for firing. This day is flexible according to your availability. 

Day 2. The 13th of July. Deliver bisque ware, make the house glaze and wadding, apply glaze to pots as required and guidance with wadding. Preparation of pieces for the packing, and preparation of the kiln. 

Day 3 - 5. The 19th, 20th & 21st of July includes the lighting ceremony, followed by a 72 hour firing with at least 2 firing shifts assisting shift leader. Roster will be organised in consultation with participants, and confirmed closer to the date.

Day 6.  The 28th of July. Unpacking of the kiln will commence at 10am, all welcome. Followed by debrief on firing results. 

Your investment of $650 will ensure an allocation of kiln space being a shelf size of 430 x 600. Brick heights are 75mm, 110mm, 150mm and no higher than the largest brick height of 225mm. Allocation also includes 1 larger piece of 350mm high x 150mm wide max. 

Remember to wear natural fibres, bring a water bottle, snacks, bring sunglasses and welding gloves if you have them. Coffee & tea provided.
