Wool Painting Workshop with Jen Milliron
Event description
“Painting with Wool” is a creative art technique that involves using needle felting to “paint” images using dyed wool roving fibers. Instead of using paint and brushes, you use a felting needle to stab and layer colored wool onto a backing fabric, gradually building up a work of art with texture and depth.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in a class like this:
Materials Used: Wool roving (soft, colorful fibers), felting needles, a foam block and a fabric base. Your 9 x 12 wool painting will be enclosed in a provided black frame, giving your finished piece a polished look.
Tools & Technique: You use a special barbed needle to push the fibers into the fabric. The barbs tangle the wool, making it stick and hold shape—this is what allows you to "draw" with the fibers.
Creative Freedom: You can follow provided designs or create your own. Common themes include landscapes, animals, florals, and abstract patterns.
Therapeutic Benefits: The process is slow, repetitive, and tactile, making it deeply calming. Many people find it fun, meditative and emotionally soothing.
In essence, Painting with Wool is both an artistic expression and a wellness activity. It’s ideal for anyone looking to explore creativity in a low-pressure, hands-on way. Supplies are included for this four hour workshop.
