Event description

The 2025 Woorilla Poetry Prize has broken all records and attracted quality entries from across Australia and the World.

The judges, Andy Jackson and Gayelene Carbis, have created their short lists and decided on the winning entries, which will be announced at the event. Over 900 poems have been painfully whittled down to a few for the shortlist, and this is where you'll hear about them.

We have a great afternoon of entertainment organised.

Keynote speaker, Alicia Sometimes will initiate proceedings.

Victorian Slam Poetry Champion, Aloma Davis will read judges' selections and perform some of her own work.

There will be a very special drop-in bush ballad performance from Mel and Susie, who will say G'day from Lightning Ridge.

We will hear music from Rebellious Bird a duo featuring singer-songwriter Erin Downie and virtuoso guitarist Nico Distefano. Through music that is as much social activism as it is reason to dance, Rebellious Bird has crafted a sound and presents songs that resonate with a growing audience.

If you are lucky enough to live in Victoria, join us for an afternoon of poetry, music and delicious refreshments. The awards event's physical venue is the stunning Hills Hub, Emerald, Victoria.

Alternatively, join online from your sofa if you are unable to attend. This will be streamed live on our Facebook page for those who are too far away to be there.

Please register to join the event either online or in person.

Registration prices are a donation and vary depending on what you can contribute, from $0 - $100. Regardless of the ticket price you select, you'll get the same quality presentation, comments from the judges, entertainment, readings of the shortlisted poems and more.

The bonus with the higher-priced tickets is that you'll also receive a warm, fuzzy feeling and the deep gratitude of the small volunteer organising committee, as your contribution will help maintain this competition into the future.

Please give what you can.
