Description
Welcome back to Wordcraft — our sixth season is underway, and you are invited.
Since 2020, we have been hosting stages for you to show up and celebrate humanity, raw and in process. We have a pipeline that turns audience members into participants, into published and performing artists. All are welcome.
We deeply value gatherings full of heart, laughter and safe passage to expression. On the Wordcraft mic, we have witnessed first-timers to old-timers learning new tricks and revisiting stories from their well-lived lives.
Whether it's poetry, song, comedy, dance, or a combination involving props and instruments — bring it!
Come along and join us for an evening of community, human creativity and celebration.
Is the stage calling you?
While we are known to be poetry-leaning, we welcome all expressions on the stage.
You are welcome to bring first drafts, freestyles, musical renditions, drag, dance, expression.
Whatever it is you want to do on the stage, as long as it's from the heart, it is welcome.
What does that mean? We have a no-dickhead policy. We recognise the open mic invites free speech and open exploration of ideas, and yes, you are encouraged to say the uncomfortable thing here.
Just be mindful that we don't platform hate speech or discrimination of any kind, and have asked people to leave for this. We all have a responsibility to our audience and ourselves.

Doors open 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

Runsheet is announced at the top of the night.
Get dinner before, as we don't have a kitchen at this bar - cheap drinks all night!
Unfortunately, this venue is not wheelchair accessible.

- How can I do a soundcheck?
If you have an instrument and are nervous about getting on the mic, you can come through from 6.45pm to touch-base with Wren and our crew.
We want your stage experience to feel as lush and celebratory as possible. If there's something you need that we can provide, we will make it work.
Please do contact Wren (me) on Instagram regarding any particulars, I always have space to discuss getting to the stage with you. - I've never done this before... can I just attend and watch?
Of course you can! There's a misconception from people that attending means this event means you have to get on the stage but that's simply not true. You are more than welcome to receive, and if you feel the call to get up, there is space to throw your name in the hat and see what chance lucks up.
I can guarantee you, you'll be going home that night smirking with knowing that it is possible for you to get on the mic. - Can I bring food?
Unfortunately no. While we recognise our last season had a great menu, due to our change in season and event delivery, we no longer have this as an available option.
There are plenty of places to eat on High Street but Bar303 is that, a bar and a bandroom.
We'd prefer no crinkly packets and fragrant take out as this impacts the room and those on stage. Thanks for understanding, no food on site, just drinks on the bar. - What resources are available to performers?
You can bring your own instruments and our sound engineer will support you in setting them up.
We can play demos/ streaming services to support your performance.
We no longer have the grand piano or the projector.
