Words We Keep: A Letter Writing Gathering
Event description
Dear Friend,
While creating Screen Reset — my course on reshaping how we use our phones — I began searching for screen-free things to do, especially simple ones with no clean-up. That’s when I rediscovered the lost art of letter writing. Sending notes to friends pulled me out of my own head, reminded me of our times together, and brought so much joy reflecting on the people I love most. A boost of oxytocin is so good for us.
Just as every friend and connection is unique, so is each letter — a keepsake for them to return to years later, capturing the little moments of now.
There’s something about seeing a friend’s handwriting — the loops, the slants, the little quirks — it’s like an expression of who they are, captured on the page.
As I discovered about more off-screen gatherings where people came together to connect, I felt called to create the kind of space I was longing for myself and that’s how Words We Keep came to be.
On Saturday 25 October at Wilson Café in Surry Hills, join me for Words We Keep — time completely off-screen. No phones, no notifications, just pen, paper, and connection.
Everything is provided: stationery, envelopes, pens, stamps, and letter prompts if you’d like them. You can leave your letter with me to post, or enjoy the small satisfaction of dropping it into the red post box just around the corner. You might even write to a stranger, your younger self, or your future self.
Please support the café by purchasing a drink or food to fuel you as you write. It's such a cool space, they also have raves in there, in the day with your coffee. So fun!
Anyhow, back to my event - come solo or bring a friend — either way, you’ll leave with more than a letter. You’ll create words and send them into the world, creating space for connection, self-discovery, and creativity.
Can you believe in Denmark you can't even post a letter anymore? It seems most people are using AI to help them write emails too. Started at a letter, then an email, then a text and now a voice message. So it seems letter writing really is a dying art where really it's an opportunity for creativity. There is no right or wrong, just what flows to you onto the paper.
Anyhow, I'm rambling now so time for me to wrap it up. I'd really love to welcome you to my event.
Until we write again,
Jasmin

P.S Alongside the letter you write here, you’ll take home something extra — a little experiment in how words can go viral, offline. The original way.
