    Event description

What do a writer of cosy crime and a gothic crime author have in common? For one thing, they have both set books in the outback of WA.

Enjoy some light refreshments while local crime authors Josh Kemp and Alexander Thorpe interview each other to discover their common ground and differences. They will read a short excerpt from their newest book and take questions from the audience.

    ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Josh Kemp is an author of Australian gothic fiction. His debut novel, Banjawarn, won the 2021 Dorothy Hewett Award, the 2022 Ned Kelly Award for Best Debut Crime Fiction and the Western Australian Premier’s Prize for Best Emerging Writer. He lives in the South West of WA but finds himself drawn, over and over again, to the red dirt of the state’s north.

    Praise for Jasper Cliff:

‘An impressive, propulsive debut laced with dark humour and a menacing undercurrent of violence that builds towards a brutal, vividly rendered conclusion.’ The West Australian

Alexander Thorpe is from Fremantle, Western Australia. He has written advertising copy for pool cleaners and concrete supply companies, taught English in Joseph Stalin’s hometown and almost managed to read half of James Joyce’s Ulysses twice (which is more or less the same as having almost managed to read the whole book). Alex has written for news outlets, travel journals, marketing companies and educational providers.

Praise for Death Holds the Key”

‘[R]eaders will be drawn into the world of small-town Western Australia in the late 1920s, delighting in the characters as they navigate the strained sensibilities and dark secrets of the past.’ @‌sandysbookaday

    ABOUT WORDS WITH WINE:

Enjoy a glass of wine while listening to a published author speak about their work and read an excerpt or two. Most authors will share some information about their writing process, how and why they came to write their featured prose or poetry and they may share some interesting or entertaining related trivia.
