WORK IN PROGRESS SHOWING - Katie Harris-MacLeod
Description
You’re warmly invited to a preview of Tree Ear, a new work-in-progress by Sunshine Coast-based interdisciplinary artist Katie Harris-MacLeod, developed during her R|Artist Residency: Natural Ecologies, Sunshine Coast.
Working across performance, moving image, sound, and material processes, over the past six-months Katie's work Tree Ear explores acoustic relationships within forest ecologies.
Developed specifically for UniSC’s CAVE2 advanced visualisation system, the work envelops audiences within a 320-degree visual display and spatialised sound, allowing participants to experience the city’s invisible infrastructures as dynamic, living systems. The project invites reflection on the environmental, cultural and social implications of our increasingly electrified world, and asks how emerging technologies might be used not just for efficiency, but for critique, imagination and rethinking urban futures.
Following the showing, Katie will sit down with Dr Leah Barclay offering insight into Katie's creative process, working at the intersection of art, science, and natural ecologies.

About the artist:
Katie Harris-MacLeod is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves between art, ecology, and embodied forms of knowledge. Working across performance, material processes, sound, moving image, and site-responsive installation, she engages with the porous boundaries between body, land, and memory.
Katie’s work is deeply connected to nature, the psychogeography of place, ecofeminist thought, and the symbiotic entanglements experienced throughout the life cycle. Nuances of folklore, intergenerational narratives, femininity, loss, and isolation are present throughout her work. These provocations emerge through a poetic dialogue between body and landscape—an exchange enacted through performance, materiality, and what she calls a “practice of the wild”. Her work explores the fluid edges of belonging, tracing a transitory relationship to place and self.
