Event description

We're super excited to announce our first-ever event in Brisbane! After the amazing success of our Melbourne and Sydney events this year, we received so many requests to bring the fun to Brisbane.

Brisbane has been a fantastic supporter of our startup, and we’re super excited to make this happen - join us for Work Reimagined Brisbane Edition! 🎉

Learning from our F*** Ups," an intimate gathering where the design community embraces the reality behind the glamorous facades. This event is dedicated to architects, designers, and practice owners eager to share not only their triumphs, but their "What was I thinking?" moments, the unforeseen hurdles, and the invaluable insights gained from plans that veered off course.

Picture an evening where we ditch the glossy editorials and delve into the true stories of building careers in design and creating the spaces that define our environment. Work Redesigned offers a rare peek behind the architectural curtain, celebrating the intricate, often bumpy journey of innovation and the learning that comes from every misstep.

Inspired by the F**K Up nights movement, it's about building a community that finds strength in vulnerability and imperfection and sees every challenge as an opportunity for growth.

About the Speakers

Rebecca’s residential architecture practice Maytree Studios operates under an ethos of being ‘humans first, architects second’. And this idea of being ‘human’ isn’t just a buzzword to slap on the website either – Rebecca delivers on this promise in every aspect of her practice. Her approach to ‘build small, build well’ makes architecture accessible to a broader range of clients, while Maytree’s employee co-ownership model shows her team how much they're valued. Having slowly and sustainably grown Maytree over the last 12+ years, she has learned that building a thriving architecture business requires more than just good design – it also takes good practice management together with customer service that delivers the genuine connection clients are craving.

Troy is a proud Kamilaroi man and the Managing Director of Blaklash, a cultural design consultancy focused on highlighting the importance of Country-centred design to deliver culturally responsive and inclusive places. With a profound dedication to community development, his work sets a benchmark for community engagement and social innovation, emphasising the critical role design plays in creating positive social change by leveraging economic opportunities within the built environment. By integrating traditional knowledge and contemporary design principles, Troy plays a pivotal role in collaborating with communities to ensure their voices are embedded in urban design and placemaking projects.

Johnny Hyde and Poppie Kenneally are the Co-Directors and Co-founders of OH Architecture, a studio dedicated to creating designs that are a unique expression of people and place; form and functionality; vision and materiality. OH’s style is defined by strong, solid forms, that are imbued with subtle elegance, natural balance and enduring appeal. Since establishing OH Architecture in 2018, Johnny and Poppie have jointly delivered award-winning residential spaces across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Significant works include the award-winning Sidney House, which showcases OH’s approach to design: using careful intervention and layering of function to craft a climatically responsive and pragmatically tailored home.

Stuart Vokes
is an architect and co-founder of Vokes and Peters based in Kurilpa, Brisbane. Migrations from Memory published by Canalside Press in 2023 is a collection of essays by Stuart Vokes and Aaron Peters reflecting upon twenty years of collaboration.
