    Event description

Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA) has been awarded a tender to create awareness-raising and educational materials focused on family, domestic and sexual violence against older people in Australia. These materials will target workers and professionals who interact with older people. Educating this group can help support older people experiencing abuse, as data shows they often disclose or seek help from carers, professionals, and trusted individuals.

Before we start developing these materials, we need to ensure that they are relevant and meet the needs of the intended workforce audience.

Therefore, we will be carrying out face-to-face workshops in cities and towns around Australia during October and November.

Target audience: Workers and professionals who interact with older people living in the community. Including:

    • Health workers (e.g. GPs, Nurses, Community-based nurses, Ambulance staff, RFDS)
    • In-home care providers
    • Family, domestic and sexual violence support workers
    • Social workers
    • Allied health professionals
    • NDIS providers
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers
    • Welfare agency workers
    • LGBTQIA+ support services
    • CALD support services

    The workshops are designed to:

    • Understand the skills and knowledge required to empower workers to support older people experiencing abuse
    • Ensure educational materials meet workers needs
    • Understand the experience of workers who interact with older people

The groups will run from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm with a break for morning tea. Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.

Questions about this project can be sent to FDSV.education@eaaa.org.au or phone 1800 960 026.
