Event description

This working group will focus on 'Process Safety of Joint Management'

At this working group event, you will have an opportunity to share your experiences and learn from other attendees on this important topic as well as hear from our guest presenter form Qenos.

We will discuss why and how organisations safely break into their systems to conduct maintenance.

What systems are used to reduce the frequency of breaking into these systems, who is doing what around leak detection across hot joints, cold joints, and what other systems are being employed.

Also, methods to ensure the correct processes are followed by the correct people.

We may drill down into flange design and management on topics like

• Flange design codes adopted (ASME B16.5?)

• What process is used during maintenance. Tagging?

• What is the QA process used in rebolting and are there flange gap checks completed?

• Is there a QA process to ensure correct gasketing?

• Do all the bolts have torque settings and how is this determined?

Our events are an excellent forum for networking and engaging in 'peer to peer' learning with other members. To get the most out of the event you need to attend the event with a willingness to contribute to group discussions.

          LinkedIn Profile

Paul started his career as an apprentice with ICI, now Qenos, as a fitter machinist at their Botany operation and this enabled him to gain exposure to numerous petrochemical plants.

Completing his apprenticeship he secured a maintenance technician role at the Olefines plant where he has worked in many different positions, in the departments of maintenance, operations, and reliability and is currently in a maintenance planning and scheduling position.

Through these varied roles, he has gained experience in the operations and maintenance of the plants as well as involvement in many planned and unplanned shutdowns, major maintenance activities, and troubleshooting operational and mechanical problems in a complex major hazardous facility. As an inherent attribute, mechanical reliability has been a leading interest throughout all of his different roles.

Paul will share his insights on process safety of joint management from his experiences at Qenos.

      Qenos Sydney - Botany
The Qenos Botany complex is situated 17 km south of the Sydney central business district on a 37-hectare site adjacent to Botany Bay and its shipping terminal. This area has developed into a major chemical and plastics manufacturing location in the years since the chemical industry first commenced operations at Botany in 1942. Qenos operates four plants at Botany, identified as Olefines, Alkatuff, Alkathene, and Site Utilities. The Olefines plant processes ethane feedstock sourced from the Cooper basin in South Australia into around 250 kT of ethylene per year for the two downstream polyethylene plants and other domestic and export customers.
