Event description

This working group will focus on Building safety into our older equipment.

“They don’t build’em like they used to!”
How often have you heard that expression? In the past, equipment was built to last and ‘built-in obsolescence’ was a distant concept.
As a result, many of us still use equipment that was built way back in the mid-20th Century, and this equipment is still going strong.
The problem is… safety was less of a consideration back then.

Which raises a couple of key questions:

  • How do you retrofit older equipment to reduce safety risks?
  • How do you overcome the inherent manual handling risks in older equipment?

This working group will address the challenges associated with building safety into older equipment.

Our discussions may include such considerations as:

  • Safety sensors and interlocks
  • Manual handling tools and devices
  • Risk assessment to prioritise safety measures and determine the most critical areas for improvement.
  • Compliance with safety standards: Ensuring that the equipment complies with the latest safety standards and regulations.
  • Repairs and Maintenance strategy
  • Upgrade of safety features
  • Training
  • Safety protocols
  • Emergency preparedness

Come along and share your thoughts with other local businesses who may have an answer for your questions?

    ANDREW MCCOLL

Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, Preventure
    LinkedIn Profile

Andrew has become an industry leader in workplace injury prevention through his innovative and comprehensive approach that utilises both wearable technology and Sports Science.

With a diverse background in physiotherapy, exercise physiology, and occupational health and safety, Andrew has broad expertise in preventing injuries.

Throughout his time treating injured workers, Andrew has gained invaluable insights into the unique challenges faced in the workplace and the devastating impact that workplace injuries can have on a worker. Alongside the team at Preventure, he is dedicated to reducing the risk of workplace musculoskeletal injuries and enhancing the outcomes for injured workers.

Wearable Sensors for Industry

Many workplaces are using older equipment that may not have been designed with ergonomics in mind, might require repetitive manual tasks, or are just inherently unsafe.

Now picture these workplaces where every employee is equipped with a personal injury prevention coach. Instead of a one-size-fits-all training program, these coaches would tailor their guidance to an individual's unique movement patterns and job responsibilities and teach them how to prevent future injuries.

The Preventure team has embarked on an eight-year journey to translate the technology and methodology used in elite sports, into an effective, evidence-based (and sustainable) workplace solution.

Join us for a deep dive into the health science that sits behind the data, and an examination of real case studies form workplaces. Including the real costs involved in implementing a wearable sensor program.
