This online Working Group will focus on the topic of ‘Conversational Capacity”

Conversational Capacity, based on Craig Weber’s book of the same name, is the ability for individuals and teams to have “Constructive, learning focused dialogue on difficult subjects in challenging circumstances and across boundaries”.

It’s about getting enough information on the table through a balance of Candour and Curiosity, that enables people to make informed decisions. It’s not about agreeing, it’s about learning about what to do next to make progress on tough issues. High Conversational Capacity also requires an understanding of our “Win” and Minimise tendencies that can very quickly draw us into Fight or Flight mode, and what our individual triggers are that push us in these directions.

A team with high Conversational Capacity can put its most troubling, divisive and painful work on the table and do really good work on it. A team with low Conversational Capacity can see itself getting derailed by a minor difference of opinion.

A team that can’t talk about its most pressing issues productively isn’t really a team at all. It’s just a group of people who can’t work together when it counts; when the pressure is on!

Brendan’s 90 mins session will provide a snapshot of what Conversational Capacity is and why it’s so important to teams, business, families and the broader community.

Brendan’s interactive session will focus on providing a new lens through which to view the importance of engagement, the situations in which it matters most, and actionable suggestions for how we can increase it.
