Working Group | A practical look at how Value Stream Mapping (VSM) can improve business performance

Whenever there is a product for a customer there is a value stream.  The challenge is making it visible to the people who can improve it.

You cannot improve what you cannot see and often improvement leaders will dive in to eliminating waste and improving a specific part of the value stream which makes them feel like they are achieving results.  Often these improvements could be described as happy Kaizen and they don’t have an impact on the value stream.

The nett result if this approach is that improvements do not reach the bottom line.

Improvement efforts are most effective when applied strategically within the context of developing a lean value stream.

As a CI specialist the first tool you should have is the ability to create a value stream map and an understanding of why this is important.

In this workshop we will explore the purpose, the key elements of a VSM and get you started on your pathway of developing a value stream map.

The agenda for the day will include: 

• Introductions – an opportunity to build upon your network.
• Presentation on VSM
• Participant working group activity to provide an opportunity for detailed discussion and sharing on what you are doing around this topic.
• Key insights review.
• Reflection on what you can take back to your business to create a positive change.

This event is ideal for Business Improvement Specialists and Departmental Leaders.
