Working Group | Where have all the Engineers Gone?
Event description
This working group will focus on Maintenance and Engineering labour – Countering the skills shortage
Are you finding it difficult to staff your Maintenance and Engineering teams?
If so, you are not alone.
Recent modelling of supply and demand for national engineering skills in Australia predicts a skills gap of 200,000 by 2040. This unprecedented mismatch between demand and supply will leave key roles vacant and place unsustainable pressure on the existing engineering workforce.
The long-term solution requires a long-term strategy, but if you need someone now, what can you do?
This workshop will serve to develop a common understanding of your challenges and opportunities.
We will discuss, among other things:
- Are you running an apprentice program?
- What are you doing to upskill operators to relieve the burden?
- How are you attracting and recruiting staff?
- What remuneration strategies are you employing?
- Are you making your roles interesting enough to retain and attract staff?
- What is your policy on overseas talent?
Come along and share your thoughts with other local businesses who may have an answer for your questions?
