This workshop series is co-designed, developed and delivered with women with disability. It is targeted to people who work in the sexual assault, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic and family violence workforce.

The aim of the ‘Working well with Women with Disability’ series is to build confidence, knowledge, and skills to work well with people with disability experiencing sexual, domestic, or family violence. It also provides information about where and how to access additional resources to support this work and good practice examples. At an organisational level the series explores what it means to provide a service that is accessible, welcoming, and inclusive to people with disability.

We invite you to join us for the whole series of workshops as each session will build on from the previous workshop’s learning, or just the ones of interest to you. Handouts and resources from each workshop will be made available to participants including those unable to attend all.

After all workshops have been completed videos will be created and resources developed that will be online and freely accessible to all. Your participation will help us to shape these to meet the needs of the sexual assault, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic and family violence workforce.

This series is created by WWILD and QDN in partnership with WorkUP Queensland. *As this series is co-designed with women with disability there may be adjustments to learning outcomes.

Workshop 5: Inclusion of women with disability in organisations as clients and staff

As our sector has increased its inclusivity of working with people with disability, it is important to ensure that as organisations we have capacity to have both clients and staff that have disabilities.

Learning Objectives

This workshop will cover:

How to ensure your organisation is accessible to women with disabilities
- Tips on how to make it accessible by default, and not just upon request
- This includes physical accessibility, as well as accessible resources, and inclusive policies and procedures
- How to connect with consultants and supports to increase accessibility
- Inclusion of women with disabilities on management committees or boards
How to utilise peer facilitator models when generating training or organisational structures
Generating easy-read and other accessible induction procedures for staff with disability
Stories from workers and women with disabilities to highlight best practice
Resources and support for organisations wanting to better engage women with disabilities as clients and staff

Anyone working in the domestic and family violence, women’s health and wellbeing and sexual assault sector will find this workshop series beneficial.
