Working with First Nations Survivors in Prison

Hosted by Knowmore’s Aboriginal Engagement Team, this training provides Redress Support Workers with a deeper understanding of the cultural challenges and experiences that First Nations peoples in custody may face. It explores how workers can provide appropriate, culturally safe support within the scope of their roles.

The session will cover the importance in understanding a client’s cultural background, community connections, and other key cultural considerations.

By the end of the training, Redress Support Workers will be better equipped to recognise and respond to the cultural needs of First Nations clients in custody. They will have greater confidence in providing clear and culturally appropriate information, identifying relevant cultural supports, and connecting clients with appropriate services both during their time in custody and following release.
