About the workshop:

Participants will produce fun and colourful serving dishes and serving spoons that will be both food and dishwasher safe. Simple slab building techniques will be employed for construction. We will use everyday tools which will enabling everyone to repeat the process and make more at home if they wish.

A white clay will be used and all techniques will be demonstrated and fully explained. Dishes will then be decorated with underglazes using designs that we will develop in class. A clear glaze will complete this tableware.

Week 1

On the first day we will use a white clay to make even slabs with which we will construct straight sided dishes and serving spoons. Simple kitchen tools will be used and all steps demonstrated and explained.

Week 2

On the second day you will be shown how to develop some simple individual designs to complement your forms. These designs will then be applied to your dishes and spoons using brushes and underglazes followed by a clear glaze.

Skill level: suitable for beginners as well as those with intermediate skills.

About the facilitator:

Ronelle has been a practicing ceramicist for over 40 years and have exhibited widely within Australia with both sculptural and functional ware. For 30 of these years she has taught ceramics within TAFE Queensland in Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses.

At present Ronelle works from her home studio using porcelaneous clays to produce, wheelthrown, handbuilt and slipcast functional ware. Her work is mainly influenced by the sea and coastal environment and retails through Artisan and The Museum of Brisbane.

Workshop Cancellation Policy:

Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached. In this event participants will be refunded accordingly and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:

Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator. Bookings cancelled up to one week prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted. Bookings cancelled within a week of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded.

Workshop Transfer Policy:

You may transfer your booking into an alternative workshop up to one week prior to the start of the workshop. Any difference in cost will be charged accordingly. Please endeavour to complete any transfers at least one week prior to the workshop.

You are also welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement in writing to workshop@artisan.org.au.
