In this workshop:

Have you ever wanted to learn how to sing but don’t know where to start? Join our beginners singing workshop! Learn the basics of breath, pitch and vocal techniques that will raise your confidence and help you to find your voice. Hosted by Jessie May from PitchPlease. We invite you into a relaxed, supportive and fun environment. No previous experience necessary, all welcome! Musicians feel free to bring your instruments to jam together at the end of the session! 
You will learn:
Why is singing so good for you, how the voice works, posture, breath work, warm ups and the importance of vocal exercises, how to find your vocal range, what is active listening, how to sing a scale, Beginner friendly singing exercises, how to use and hold a microphone, learn a song together, end of session Jam.

Trying out workshops at Heartcote 2026

In 2026, we are offering ukulele and singing workshops to give ourselves the opportunity to stretch!
In each workshop, we will learn a song, and all workshop groups will be invited to perform on stage on Sunday.
Check with your workshop leader for performance time.

About your presenter

  • Jessie May Matthews

    Jessie May Matthews

    Jessie May is a singer, songwriter and musician from Victoria, with over 20 years of live performance experience and 5 years of teaching. Performing under the stage name MissMay, Jessie has performed at countless venues and holds a Diploma in Contemporary Music and Performance from the Australian College of the Arts. Originally from the Dandenong Ranges, she was actively involved in the local music scene, collaborating, performing and writing as a solo artist and with fellow musicians. After welcoming her first child in 2019, Jessie discovered a passion for teaching. Now based in Heathcote with her family, she has founded PitchPlease, offering individual and group lessons in singing, music and performance and in previous years hosted the Pub Choir in Heathcote. Jessie hopes to eventually expand her work into Music and Art Therapy.
