Skill Level: The workshop is particularly suitable for those with no carving experience or those who have already carved a spoon, bangle or a bowl and want to try their hand at another set of carving skills.

About the workshop:

In this workshop you will learn from experienced woodcarver Theresa Darmody who will take you through the skills and techniques required to carve a functional dried flower vase using just a few tools. You will learn how to use a drawknife, carving knife, rasp and spokeshave enabling you to carve safely and efficiently. You will also become familiar with the direction of timber grain and learn how to work with the grain to achieve beautiful and lasting results, and have the opportunity to explore a range of finishing techniques to really make your work pop - some of the many tips and tricks to wood carving that you'll be able to pick up from Theresa's years in the craft.

Artisan workshops are designed to be accessible for those with no prior experience and an avenue to learn a new skill within a supportive environment. So book in with a friend, a workmate or come solo and make memories while learning a new craft! Join us in this workshop with Theresa, and carve your own unique wooden vase to appreciate in the years to come!

About the facilitator:

Theresa Darmody relocated to Brisbane 6 years ago as a painter- seeking to include some sculptural pieces in an exhibition, she attended a carving workshop, which got her hooked on carving! Theresa’s paintbrushes and paints are now in storage and she finds herself carving every day. She enjoys making functional pieces such as spoons, combs and bowls as well as purely sculptural objects. Workshop Cancellation Policy:

Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached - this decision is made between 2-7 days before the workshop date so don't delay in buying your ticket! In the event of the workshop being cancelled by artisan, participants will be refunded in full and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:

Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator. Bookings cancelled up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted. Bookings cancelled within two weeks of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded. Refunds are to be processed by the attendee through Humanitix.

Workshop Transfer Policy:

You may transfer your booking into an alternative workshop up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop. Any difference in cost will be charged accordingly. Please endeavour to complete any transfers at least two weeks prior to the workshop.

You are also welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement 24 hours prior to the workshop in writing to workshop@artisan.org.au.

Please be assured artisan has well considered COVID-safe protocols regarding our workshop programming. You will be offered socially distanced seating, access to your own PPE sanitation options at your workspace, and a large extremely well-ventilated workshop venue.
