Cost: $125 per person, limited to 10 places

Skill Level: Suitable for beginners and those wanting to extend their jewellery making experience.

Age Limit: This workshop is suited for ages 16+.

About the workshop: 

Under the guidance of metalsmith Jemica Ostrofski of Meekz Contemporary Jewellery, you will learn how to design and fabricate your very own textured earrings using recycled metals. You will explore some of the most simple yet well-loved metalsmithing techniques of mark making and hand sawing - using various hammers, letter stamps, number stamps and other tools - to make your design come to life!

Jemica will guide you through the process of designing earrings that take into consideration comfortable wear that don't compromise on aesthetics, intro into materials and sheet metals, safe use of hand and power tools and how to care for your creation for years to come. You will have the opportunity to add your own creative touches to your design along the way, while learning key techniques and skills!

This  workshop gives you the opportunity to learn a new skills from a well experienced contemporary jeweller in a group setting. In this 3 hour workshop you will make 1 finished pair of earrings – either as studs, drop earrings or clip ons.

Artisan workshops are designed to be accessible for those with no prior experience and an avenue to learn a new skill within a supportive environment. So book in with a friend, a workmate or come solo and make some memories while learning a new craft! Join us in this workshop with Jemica, and make a pair of earrings you'll love wearing and sharing stories about in the years to come! 

Included in workshop ticket:

  • A sheet of recycled aluminium, copper or brass.
  • Additional recycled metals that could be used.
  • Findings to turn your creation into jewellery/sculpture.
  • Industrial strength glue.
  • Apron to wear during workshop.
  • 1 finished pair of earrings – studs, drop earrings or clip ons.
  • Gift box/pouch to store and take home your finished work in.
  • Learning new metalsmithing skills!
  • All tools necessary.
  • Your finished earrings to be worn home if you wish!
  • Light refreshments.

What to bring:

  • Closed in shoes (essential).
  • Imagery of any jewellery ideas you might like to draw inspiration from (examples will be provided).
  • Notebook to sketch out your ideas and take notes.
  • Pen and paper to take notes
  • No loose items of clothing (as they may get caught in equipment).
  • Hair tied back.
  • A willingness to learn a new skill.
  • Your imagination and curiosity!

    About the facilitator: 

    Meekz Contemporary Jewellery is an environmentally sustainable design label by silversmith Jemica Ostrofski. Using traditional silversmithing techniques such as hand sawing, soldering, hammer texturing and oxidisation, Jemica brings to life her sketched drawings to create statement jewellery that can be worn every day.

    Adopting an ethically responsible and environmentally friendly practice, all of Meekz collections are made using recycled, reclaimed and repurposed metals, breathing life back into forgotten treasures.

    Designed for all skill levels, Jemica’s workshops offer an insight into the life of a jeweller. Her workshops aim to encourage creativity, confidence and learning, while highlighting the importance of sustainability.

    Workshop Cancellation Policy:

    Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached - this decision is made between 2-7 days before the workshop date so don't delay in buying your ticket! In the event of the workshop being cancelled by artisan, participants will be refunded in full and as soon as possible.

    Participant Cancellation Policy:

    Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator. Bookings cancelled up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted. Bookings cancelled within two weeks of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded. Refunds are to be processed by the attendee through Humanitix.

    Workshop Transfer Policy:

    You may transfer your booking into an alternative workshop up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop. Any difference in cost will be charged accordingly. Please endeavour to complete any transfers at least two weeks prior to the workshop.

    You are also welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement 24 hours prior to the workshop in writing to workshop@artisan.org.au.

    COVID-Safe Policy:

    Please be assured artisan has well considered COVID-safe protocols regarding our workshop programming. You will be offered socially distanced seating, access to your own PPE sanitation options at your workspace, and a large extremely well-ventilated workshop venue.
