This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

When: Saturday, 10 Jun 2023

Time: 10am - 12pm

WhereMelbourne Street Studio: 170 Melbourne Street, South Brisbane 4101

Cost: $95 per person, limited to 10 places

Skill Level: Suitable for beginners and those wanting to extend their prior wheel throwing experience

About the workshop:

Have you ever wanted to try the pottery wheel, to see what all of the hype is about, but haven't gotten around to it yet? In this one-off workshop, our master ceramicist Stephanie Outridge Field will show you all you need to know to get you started on your ceramics journey. Your instructor will start off with demonstrations on how to work the clay and prepare it for the wheel, then it's time to try the techniques yourself! Stephanie will be there to guide, demonstrate and walk you through the process. You will be able to practice your newly learned skills throughout the class and choose 2 vessels to take to the next stage of kiln firing.

This one-off class is a perfect taste tester to get you started on your ceramics journey and essential for our Casual Wheel Hire sessions, if you'd like to come back and practice your new found skill. As clay can take multiple days to dry (depending on the thickness of the work and humidity levels), we will finish off your works the following week and fire the pieces once they're completely dry.

We have a range of dates available for Term 2, so choose your preferred date, book in a friend, workmate or your partner and make some memories while learning a new skill!

Included in workshop ticket:

  • Learning new skills including: clay prep, hand wedging, centering, pulling up walls and shaping vessel forms
  • All tools necessary
  • Light refreshments
  • Works finished by staff once dry
  • Firing of works by artisan's experienced kiln technician
  • Two finished creations ready for pick up 3-4 weeks after the workshop
