Journey through the wetlands of Chile and Australia in this hands-on workshop celebrating 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Discover some of the most iconic species that call these wetlands home — from the migratory Latham’s Snipe to the remarkable Atacama Toad.
The session begins with a short presentation on the vital role wetlands play in both countries' ecosystems and introduces a few of the fascinating species that inhabit them, along with the powerful stories they carry.
Participants will then bring these stories to life by creating their own wildlife paper toys. Choose from four Chilean and Australian animals to colour, cut, fold, and glue — and take your creations home as a reminder of the unique biodiversity that connects these distant lands.
What you'll be doing:
Constructing paper animal toys from flat templates.
What you'll need to bring:
All materials are provided.
This workshop is best suited for:
Families and creative kids.
All skill levels.*
*Some of the animals have small parts and will require a level of manual skill to complete the task. It is advised that children under the age of 7 have an adult to assist them, if necessary, with cutting and assembly.
About the artist:
Eggpicnic is an award-winning design studio devoted to wildlife conservation, founded by designers and birders Camila De Gregorio and Christopher Macaluso. Their mission is to use art as a powerful tool to raise awareness and inspire action around the global decline of wildlife. Through striking illustrations and public installations, they educate audiences on the importance of protecting birdlife and biodiversity. Their work has been featured on the Harbour Bridge Pylons and the Argyle Cut for Vivid Sydney, and at Australian Parliament House for Enlighten, connecting people with nature through storytelling, and a deep commitment to conservation.
