Workshop - Starting Your Patch From Scratch

Join me, Sophie Thomson, for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn the core principles of designing your perfect sustainable property. You'll walk away with the tools to develop a master plan that sets you up for long-term success.

In this extended session we’ll dive into:

• Zoning strategies to manage water and create microclimates for comfort and productivity

• The foundations of soil improvement and timing your plantings for the best results

• How to position productive spaces like vegetable gardens and orchards

• Integrating chickens, bees, and beneficial bugs

• And so much more!

You'll also enjoy a delicious morning tea featuring our beloved Sophie’s Patch cakes, followed by a guided tour of my new (still evolving!) patch, where you'll see these principles in action.

To top it off, I’ll share my vision for rewilding this space, and you’ll even have the chance to plant a few native species with me as we literally put down roots together.

I loved running and hosting special events and workshops in Mt Barker and my new property was purchased with this in mind. It has a large shed perfect for workshops and we are delighted to be able to offer them in this new space.

Location

While my new property is rural, it’s not that far away. It is just 30 minutes from the Barossa, 30 minutes from Mannum and 1.5 hours from Adelaide. The exact address will be provided after tickets are purchased.

What to wear/bring

Please check the weather forecast for Sedan and dress according to the weather. Closed footwear suitable for farm/gardening conditions are a must as is a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, windbreaker and gardening gloves. If you want to help with rewilding please bring a spade!

Cancellation Policy

As our events always have an outdoor element we have a wild weather policy. If the weather forecast is or extreme winds, storms or temperatures I will cancel the event on the evening prior and will notify ticket buyers by email. Please remember to check your emails in the evening prior. In the event that we do have to cancel we will reschedule, or refund tickets.
