World Environment Day and Reconciliation Celebration Event

Join Brimbank Council and Friends of Maribyrnong Valley to help create habitat along the Maribyrnong River at Caroline Chisholm Reserve in Keilor. This year we will be celebrating World Environment Day, Reconciliation Week AND Friends of Maribyrnong Valley's 40th anniversary!

What to expect

• Welcome to Country from Wurundjeri Traditional Owner

• Planting native shrubs and grasses

• Educational nature-based activities, including The Connies

• Face painting and bubble show

• Light lunch

• Native plant giveaway by Allkids Junior Landcare

All welcome - kids encouraged as long as they are supervised by an adult.

What to Bring:

• Closed-toe, waterproof shoes (gumboots are a good idea)

• Raincoat

• Sun protection (hat, sunscreen),

• Reusable water bottle

• Gardening Gloves (we’ll have extras if you don't have gloves)

Schedule

9:45am - Park in street and arrive at 20 Flora St, Keilor, walk to site (follow signs and volunteers in high-vis)

10am - Welcome to Country and Friends of Maribyrnong Valley talk

10:20am - Planting and kids activities begin. There will a performance by the Connies, face painting and a plant identification workshop.

12pm - Light lunch (sandwiches, hot finger food, fruit)

12.30pm - Watering plants and general tidy up

1pm - Event finishes

Parking

There is no parking at the event site itself and no parking along Flora Street, north of Old Calder Hwy. If travelling with others, you may first drop them at the pedestrian entrance at 20 Flora St, Keilor (see Walk-in entrance on map) which is a 450m walk to the event. If you have an Accessible Parking Permit, you may show your sticker to staff at the Walk-in entrance, and drive to Vehicle access to park onsite, but this is strictly limited to those with permits only.

• Flora Street, south of Old Calder Hwy, Alongside Lagoon Reserve ONLY, and 2-14 Flora Street

• Old Calder Hwy opposite Keilor Hotel, alongside Lagoon Reserve

• Old Calder Hwy service road, near to Lagoon Reserve public toilet

Second best options for parking (see orange on map)

• Hunter Street

• Church Street

• Keilor Hotel parking (not fully utilised on Saturday morning)

Toilets: There will be an accessible portaloo on site.

Accessibility: This event is taking place on a flat piece of grass near the river. We will have some chairs available for those that will need to sit down for breaks.
