    Event description

World Music Cafe is a popular 'Dinner & Show' music event that features culturally diverse artists, global music genres, and international cuisine. The music performances by professional and community musicians include traditional folkloric styles, contemporary interpretations, and cross-cultural collaborations.

Established as a social enterprise in 2019, World Music Café employs crew members of new migrant and refugee backgrounds and provides genuine economic and social integration into our Australian community.

World Music Café is delighted to announce a new season of diverse ‘Dinner & Show’ music concerts starting on Friday 28 July 2023 at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club Function Room with a special show featuring Ukrainian-Australian folk band The Buevskie's, Mulguna singer songwriter Lee West, and the Sino Swing gypsy jazz quartet, plus a banquet of international cuisine.

The Buevskie’s are a dynamic and versatile group consisting of Ukrainian and Australian performers, performing a blend of traditional and modern songs, sung in Ukrainian. The group was formed by husband and wife team, Irina and Rob Buevsky-Cowell. Irina is a Ukrainian-born Concert Pianist and performs vocals, keyboard, and piano accordion, with Rob on guitar and vocals.

Lee West is a Mulguna man from the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. He is a talented singer songwriter, and also a renowned First Nations dancer and choreographer. For his World Music Café set, Lee will share his original songs and cultural stories.

Sino Swing are an exciting quartet that perform the upbeat Parisian gypsy jazz repertoire with a distinctly Eastern twist. The quartet features Zola Li on violin and vocals, Edwin Ch’ng on finger-style guitar, Wayan Biliondana on upright bass, and new member, Chenchen Lin on erhu.  Chenchen has recently arrived in Perth and is an accomplished erhu player who has won many awards for her erhu performances.
