Event description

World Music Café wraps up 2025 with an epic show featuring the smooth Brazilian sounds of the Juliana Areias trio and the dynamic Chinese ensemble Dragon Odyssey at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club function room on Friday 28 November 2025.

Award-winning Brazilian singer and songwriter, Juliana Areias brings a new edge to traditional Brazilian rhythms and contemporary Latin fusion of bossa nova, samba carnaval, forro, maracatu, afro and reggae-samba, plus pop, rock and funk. Dubbed the ‘Bossa Nova Baby’, she has performed her music across the world on major stages in Europe, Japan, Singapore, USA, Latin America, and Australia. Her debut album ‘Bossa Nova Baby’ won the ‘Best Brazilian Music Album’ at the Focus Brazil Awards in the USA and the album charted on the US Jazz Top 100.

Dragon Odyssey is an extraordinary new 8-piece ensemble that blends the rich heritage of traditional Chinese instrumentation including pipa, yang qin, gu zheng, and erhu, with a slick Western rhythm section of drums, bass, and guitar. The band features stunning individual musicianship and collectively Dragon Odyssey embrace a dynamic East-West fusion that transcends cultural boundaries and creates a spectacular sonic experience.

The World Music Café ‘Dinner & Show’ includes a delicious multicultural menu by Tamara Rodriguez and her Casa Latina team that caters for all dietary requirements.

“It’s a pleasure to showcase the depth of diverse musical talent at our World Music Café events and promote the harmony that exists within our contemporary Australian culture,” said World Music Café facilitator, Jon Cope.
