World Refugee Day Lunch 2024
Event description
Gillian Triggs and Nyadol Nyuon to join World Refugee Day celebrations in Sydney
Australia for UNHCR is delighted to announce that Gillian Triggs, one of the country’s most well-known human rights advocates, will be speaking at our World Refugee Day lunch in June.
Ms Triggs has recently concluded her appointment as UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, a role that took her all over the world advocating for refugees and displaced people. We will also be joined by lawyer and human rights advocate, Nyadol Nyuon, OAM. Nyadol grew up in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya where she completed most of her primary and secondary education. She recently returned to Kakuma with Australia for UNHCR. (Nyadol is pictured above with Kakuma Secondary School student Ayor Athian Akech).
This year’s lunch will be hosted by SBS presenter, Kumi Taguchi. We’ll be raising money for education programs in refugee camps.
