World Refugee Day Lunch 2026
Description
WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2026
We would love you to join us on June 18 to mark World Refugee Day.
You’ll meet the 2026 winner of the Les Murray Award for Refugee Recognition, supported by SBS and Australia for UNHCR. This year’s award goes to Dr Jasmina Kevric whose family fled war in the former Yugoslavia when she was just a girl. Dr Kevric is a breast cancer surgeon based in Melbourne.
We’re pleased to announce that Afghan-Australian writer, Durkhanai Ayubi will also be speaking at World Refugee Day. Her new book, “She Who Tastes, Knows” is a memoir of food, exile and awakening.
There will be a wonderful performance by NOURI, a Kurdish-Kiwi singer-songwriter. NOURI spent the early years of her life in a Syrian refugee camp and is now a highly successful artist.
