World Refugee Day @ UC 2025
Event description
Hosted by Student Equity and Participation and Companion House.
Join us for a special morning tea to mark World Refugee Day.
World Refugee Day provides UC and the community with an opportunity to demonstrate our support and to recognise the strength, resilience, and courage of those with refugee backgrounds, both locally and around the globe.
Students of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds are currently an under-represented group in higher education within Australia, with higher education attainment rates at 12.7%. Overall, refugees and asylum seekers are approximately half as likely as non-refugees to attain a university degree, with the national average for non-refugee higher education attainment standing at 24.3%. Access to education is a human right and the University of Canberra aims to inspire and support students throughout all phases of their educational journey.
We will have the privilege of several UC students with refugee backgrounds sharing their stories with us, alongside delicious catering by Cafe Stepping Stone.
Further details on the Speakers’ Panel to be released soon.
