The Story of Fungi -
What are fungi? How are they so different from plants?
Where do you find them? Why are they so important? Eloise is a keen young mycologist and plant pathologist based in Brisbane. During her agricultural science studies at the University of Queensland, she became enamoured with the world of fungi and plant pathology under the guidance of enthusiastic professors and mentors. Her studies culminated in a year-long Honours project exploring biological control of the invasive rat’s tail grasses using the fungus Stagonospora tauntonensis. She then began her role as plant pathologist with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, where she works on diagnostics and management of fungal, oomycete and viral plant diseases of tree crops. Outside of work, the fungi fanaticism is also a hobby, including photography, drawing and identification (using her many fungi books). Eloise is also a hobby artist, drawing on imagery Australian flora into landscape pieces and themed characters. In September of this year she is planning to release a range of drawing prints for an annual fundraiser with Lifeline Australia.
