Class sizes

A maximum of 30-students may attend.

Supervision

A teacher (or responsible person in a preschool setting) must be in charge of all camps or excursions.

Please ensure enough adult supervision to supervise your students. For the best experience for all involved we recommend the Department for Education ratios for excursions.

The minimum adult (staff, instructors and volunteers) to student ratio (excluding the teacher in charge or the responsible person in a preschool setting) is:

• 1:6 for preschool to year 2.

• 1:10 for years 3 to 7.

• 1:15 for years 8 to 12.

Some activities may have a higher ratio if the activity has a prescribed ratio and the risk assessment or needs of the students attending indicates a higher ratio is needed.

Make it a day of learning and enrichment for your students by booking an educator-led experience as well!

Please note that the Bicentennial Conservatory will close at 2pm on days when the weather is forecast to reach 36 degrees Centigrade, for the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers. When the forecast temperature is 40 degrees or higher the Bicentennial Conservatory will not open all day.

Bus drop-zones

Plane Tree Drive between the Botanic Gardens and the Zoo
Hackney Road adjacent to the Goodman Building
Hackney Road adjacent to Botanic Park, north of the Plane Tree Drive entrance 

Buses may stand here for 10 minutes, bus parking in the vicinity of the Adelaide Botanic Garden is not available. Please discuss bus drop off arrangements with your bus company prior to the visit.

Please note for safety reasons, there is strictly no drop off at the Zebra Crossings on Plane Tree Drive. 

You can find  toilets at five locations across the garden. They all include accessible toilets and baby change tables:

Noel Lothian Hall, between the Rose Garden and Kitchen Garden (C6 map reference).

Schomburgk Pavilion, by Evergreen Deli, the Museum of Economic Botany and the Diggers Shop (D4 map reference).

Simpson Kiosk, by Botanic Lodge and Restaurant Botanic (C3 map reference)

Classgrounds, between the Friends' Gate and Conservatory Gate (A4 map reference, adjacent to Plane Tree Drive, Botanic Park). These include a Changing Places facility. You will require a mlak key to access these toilets.

Francis Arbor, to the west of the Garden (E3 map reference)

Bicentennial Conservatory

The Bicentennial Conservatory has two pathways, one at ground level which is slightly undulating, and a raised boardwalk that weaves through the tree canopy.

There is a paved pathway at ground level and includes a low gradient sloped board walk to the upper level and low gradient sloped paved path on the ground level. As this is a Rainforest environment, please be aware that there may be moisture in the air and the paths can sometimes be slippery.

Entrances and pathways

Adelaide Botanic Garden is wheelchair accessible from all entrance gates except for the Hackney Gate off Hackney Road due to its gradient. 

The Garden has paved and bitumen paths running throughout the Garden.  There are some areas that have gravel or sawdust pathways. Most of the Garden is flat, though there are some steep pathways leading to the Sunken Garden and Threatened Seed Orchard. 

Buildings
The Museum of Economic Botany has wheelchair access and is a quiet space.

Toilet facilities
Accessible toilets are available throughout the Garden. Please find toilet locations on the map.

A changing places bathroom facility can be found at A4 (map reference) for those with a disability or high support needs. An MLAK key is required to access these facility. More information regarding obtaining an MLAK key can be found here. MLAK Keys | Changing Places

Food and drink
Evergreen Deli, Botanic Lodge and Restaurant Botanic all have ramp access.
