Writing and Critique Group (6 Week)

This moderated online critique group is a place to forge connections, create new material, and submit work (optional) for constructive, helpful, supervised critique.

Writing doesn’t happen in a vacuum, but taking your manuscript out into the world can feel intimidating. Whether you’re working on a novel, memoir, short story, essay, or collection of poems, finding a feedback environment that is both constructive and genuinely supportive is rare.

Our 6-Week Writing & Critique Intensive is designed to give you the best of both worlds: dedicated time each week to generate new material, alongside a safe, structured space to get expert editorial guidance on your work-in-progress while also learning how to give better feedback to other writers.

What Makes This Workshop Different

Most critique groups operate without guidance, leading to feedback that is either too polite, uninformed, or overly prescriptive. In this intensive, every critique is moderated by a professional writing coach and editor.

You won’t just get feedback on your work—you’ll learn how to analyze creative work like an editor.

• Learn to Give & Receive Craft-Based Critique: Understand how to offer feedback that empowers a writer’s specific vision rather than imposing your own taste.

• Live Micro-Lessons on Technique: As we read submissions, we’ll analyze real-time examples on the page to teach essential mechanics—from scene structure and interiority to pacing, dialogue, and narrative arc.

• A Safe, Constructive Environment: No “tough love” and no harsh tearing down of early drafts. We focus on what’s working, what’s missing, and how to elevate the page according to your vision for your story.

How Each Weekly Session Works

Each 3-hour meeting is split into two focused halves:

1. Prompt & Generative Writing: We start every session with a craft-focused exercise designed to help you bypass writer’s block, generate new scenes, and experiment with new techniques on the spot.

2. A 15-minute break

3. Guided Critique Circle: We dive into submitted pages. You’ll hear constructive insights from both your peers and your instructor, leaving you with clear, actionable revision steps for your next draft.

Submission Guidelines

Sharing your work is 100% optional—you are welcome to attend solely to write, learn from others’ critiques, and build your editing skills.

If you choose to submit work for feedback, please follow our standard formatting guidelines so everyone can read and mark up your pages efficiently:

• Page Limit: Up to 10 pages per week

• Format: Standard manuscript format (12-point font, 1-inch margins, double-spaced)

• Allowed Genres: Fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, personal essays, short stories, and poetry.

Who This Intensive Is For

We welcome writers of any level who are writing fiction, nonfiction, essays, short stories, or poetry. You may be working on finishing a first draft, a rewrite, looking for accountability, wanting to tap into a creative community, or simply writing for fun and self-exploration.

You will leave this 6-week workshop with:

• Freshly generated writing from weekly prompts.

• Concrete edits and direction on up to 60 pages of your submitted work.

• A deeper understanding of scene construction and story structure.

• The skills and confidence to critique your own work—and others’—with an editor’s eye.

• A lasting network of supportive fellow writers.

• Duration: 6 Weeks

• Format: Online via Zoom (Live & Interactive).

• Age: 18+ This group is not appropriate for children

• Group Size: Limited to 7 attendees to ensure everyone who brings work receives thorough, attentive feedback.

• Date: Six Sunday Meetings: Sept 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, Oct 4th, 11th.

  • Why Sunday afternoons? We intentionally schedule this workshop for late Sunday afternoon to give you a dedicated, uninterrupted block of creative focus. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your weekend, generate new pages, and head into the new week with clear editorial direction and momentum.

• Time: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

We are located in West Hollywood, California, and run workshops both in Los Angeles and online via Zoom.
