Event description

5-week workshop course by Julie Keys for writers over 50.

Elizabeth Jolly, Kit de Waal, Raymond Chandler, Annie Proulx, Frank McCourt, Vicki Laveau-Harvie. What do these writers have in common? They were all over 50 before they had their first book published.

This 5-week interactive workshop by Julie Keys is for the mature aged writer who wants to flex their imagination and their writing muscles. It will explore what it is to be a writer, how we harness our ideas and experiences and how to get words on the page despite our self-doubts and barriers.

This course will run over five consecutive Tuesdays from 10am-11.30am, 19 July to 15 August.

Julie Keys lives in the Illawarra region and has worked as a tutor, a registered nurse, a youth worker and as a clinical trials coordinator. Her short stories have been published across a range of Australian journals, and she recently completed a PhD in creative arts at the University of Wollongong. Julie’s debut novel The Artist's Portrait was shortlisted for The Richell Prize then published by Hachette in 2019 when she was 57.
