Writing for Performance
Event description
A series of 2 workshops exploring writing for performance, lead by writer and theatre maker Sandra Fiona Long.
Each workshop will lead participants through different approaches to writing for performance, and are an opportunity to generate writing and then experiment with that writing in a safe supported and non-judgemental setting. The focus is on embodiment through different approaches, to bring text to life through the spoken form, and comes from Sandra’s years of experimental practice with text and performance.
Attend either workshop separately or receive a discount to do both.
The 2 workshops in this series are:
Writing from the Senses
Why is sensory perception important for performance writing? Tap into your senses as a writer, and explore how this can draw your audience in. How can you leave space for the performer to evoke the sensory world you are creating?
Sunday November 2nd, 2-4 pm
Movement in Writing
Explore ways to bring text and movement together. Whether you are writing for physical performance, dance, or for character, this workshop will give fresh approaches to generating and structuring your writing in relation to movement.
Sunday November 9th, 2-4 pm
All levels of experience are welcome. The only thing needed is a curiosity about writing for performance, and a willingness to explore.
These workshops can be applied to dance, theatre, spoken word or any genre of performance.
