Writing Room #3
Description
A Room to Write returns with Writing Room #3; 'you only possess what you renounce,' a guided writing workshop which will move participants through multiple exercises which take their form from Simone Weil's essay 'Decreation.'
What will take place is a dual process of creation and renouncement, which will allow participants to process a pre-existing work, or a work created on the night. The aim being to pass a work through a more extreme process of self-reflection and critique, that will occur in multiple guided phases, and thus see what can be done editorially in the context of just a few hours.
Weil's influence here is that of her extremity, that something must pass through the uncreated to become pure. However her essay has been used for its application unto writing and for the purpose of workshop, which is informed by the facilitator's own interpretation.
All in good fun, editing, like writing, is game-play. See you then.
