Event description

Hear from high-profile, Adelaide-based artist Jake Holmes about his practice as a printmaker, artist in resident and community arts facilitator.

As part of a 2019 Guildhouse residency, Jake was inspired by the Flinders University Museum of Art political poster collection to create Writing the Climate, using letters of the alphabet to illustrate key factors contributing to the impact of climate change. An extract of this artwork Don't be Scared is on display at The Joinery.

Jake will talk about his creative approach to design and outline screen printing techniques.

You will also screen print an image for yourself, using a climate change related image supplied by Jake. Printing materials will be provided and all you need to bring is something to print on, eg. your favourite t-shirt, tote bag or tea towel.

A fabulous way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family and friends!

FREE event with a donation (optional) towards materials on the door.

Jake Holmes holds a Bachelor of Visual Art and Design from the Adelaide College of the Arts and works across a variety of mediums, including screen printing, mural painting, illustration, audio and collage.

Jake interrogates contemporary social and political issues, and documents place through his creative practice. He is well-known as the printmaker behind the rainbow ‘C’mon Aussie C’mon’ Australia-wide marriage equality poster campaign, in collaboration with street artist Peter Drew.

Jake has undertaken public art commissions and residencies in Australia and India.
