Writing Workshop: Reach Your Goals in 2024
Event description
Create a Writing Plan for 2024
Apply four important craft issues to a manuscript in 2024 and finish that writing project!
Join Christine Pinto, Andrea Karin Nelson, Amy Cecil Holm, and Elena Hartwell Taylor to discuss choosing point of view, identifying genre, writing in past or present tense (or both), and finding a throughline. Understanding these four topics will help drive the drafting and rewriting process in the new year.
Choosing a point of view is one of the most important decisions a writer can make. Learn how POV impacts which scenes can be included and which scenes can’t, and why some stories do better in first or third person point of view. Discover the best fit for a work in progress.
Genre matters. Knowing not just the genre but the subgenre can change how a story comes together. Learn what conventions to follow or break and how genre impacts the hunt for an agent or publisher.
Past or present tense is more than just a verb choice. Discover how this decision impacts what a reader knows and when, how to decide which tense is best for your story, and why some age ranges and genres typically use one or the other (or both).
Crafting a throughline will make writing scenes easier. It can help to formulate the underlying story structure and produce a stronger arc.
This broad overview will aid writers in any genre, category, or age range at any point in the writing process. Join us and get ready for 2024!
