Event description

Mindful birding, also known as Slow Birding, is the practice of mindfulness using birds as the object of focus for observing, noticing, and concentrating the mind on, similar to the way breath is used in conventional mindfulness and meditation. If you have struggled with conventional mindfulness techniques then birds could be your answer! Mindful birding also focuses on the experience of observing rather than to identify and tick off a list of birds seen, so it doesn’t matter whether you know the difference between a pelican and a fairy wren!

In this event we combine mindful birding with creative writing as an extension of mindfulness practice, to reflect, ponder, question and share our experiences with others, tapping into the depth and richness of age old traditions of storytelling for the human experience. No writing or birding experience or ability necessary, as this experience is all about your own individual experience, and whichever way you choose to tell your story is perfect!

Cussen Park is a 33 hectare reserve made up of woodland, grassland and wetlands located on Ross Street Tatura. This activity will entail a gentle walk for approximately 800 metres along firm gravel paths through the woodland section of the reserve, stopping regularly, with periods of sitting within the woodland to observe the flora and fauna and take time to write.
