WSYD Moving Symposium 2024
Event description
Welcome to the WSYD Moving Symposium 2024
Tackling Inactivity and Inequity in Western Sydney: A Systems Approach
Western Sydney Moving (WSYD Moving) is a whole of system initiative enabling active lives through movement, physical activity and sport.
Building upon the success of the inaugural WSYD Moving Symposium held in November 2023 at the Blacktown Exercise, Sports & Technology Hub, significant strides have been made.
We’ve been progressing the 'movement for movement' generated by the actions from the last symposium.
WSYD Moving has evolved from being an initiative of Collective Leisure to becoming a Health Promotion Charity under the stewardship of the system itself.
The official launch of our Charity will take place at the Symposium. The Symposium will highlight the release of our White Paper publication, "Tackling Inactivity and Inequity in Western Sydney: A Systems Approach," co-authored with the Centre for Western Sydney at Western Sydney University.
Delegates of the symposium will receive an advanced copy prior, as the event will be deeply informed by the research and recommendations outlined in the White Paper.
The symposium will facilitate the convergence of the Western Sydney physical activity system. Bringing together individuals and organisations from all intersections of the system who share a common goal, to reduce physical inactivity and inequalities in Western Sydney.
The event at CommBank Stadium, Parramatta aims to continuing fostering collaboration within the Western Sydney physical activity system, uniting individuals and organisations across all sectors who share the common objective of reducing inactivity and inequalities in the region.
Our purpose:
- Enable active lives through movement, physical activity and sport.
Our mission:
- Lead, connect and support a Western Sydney system to improve population health creating the conditions to reduce inactivity and inequity.

Who are we?
WSYD Moving was founded by David Burns from Collective Leisure who will plan and coordinate the event. At the symposium WSYD Moving will be launched as its own entity a Health Promotion Charity.
Collective Leisure is a certified social enterprise with a mission to reduce health inequity within our communities. This is summarised in their purpose statement of “enabling well-being without boundaries”. A social enterprise is a ‘business for good’.
