Welcome to the inaugural WSYD Moving Symposium

An inspiring event dedicated to addressing physical inactivity in Western Sydney.

Western Sydney Moving (WSYD Moving) is a whole of system initiative dedicated to reducing physical inactivity within Western Sydney. Collectively, we’re creating the conditions for more active people in Western Sydney.

This symposium is facilitating the convergence of the Western Sydney physical activity system. Bringing together individuals and organisations from all intersections of the system who share a common goal, to reduce physical inactivity in Western Sydney.

We’re activating change

Collective Leisure is the convenor of WSYD Moving - a whole-of-system initiative inspired by the UK's successful Greater Manchester Moving.

WSYD Moving is operationalising Getting Australia Active III: A systems approach to physical activity for policy makers. Prepared by the Australian Prevention Partnership Centre and the University of Sydney.

Physical inactivity is a global public health issue and a leading cause of chronic disease. Western Sydney residents suffer disproportionately higher levels of chronic disease compared to other areas of Australia. It’s widely accepted that physical activity is a primary means to reduce chronic disease and extend quality of life.

The symposium will foster cross-sector collaboration to support systems change in Western Sydney. WSYD Moving launched in June 2022 through a virtual conference and continues as a bi-monthly Community of Practice.

Our aim for the WSYD Moving Symposium is to offer a transformative experience that will:

Highlight innovative practices dedicated to addressing physical inactivity and promoting health and well-being

Identify key system-level enablers and leverage points to reduce physical inactivity

Shared vision

Facilitate the co-creation of a collective vision to reduce physical inactivity within Western Sydney, generating a unified sense of purpose

Strategy support

Garner support for the establishment of and contribution to the WSYD Moving strategy

Professional development

Share insights, knowledge and perspectives to connect the system

Who are we?

Collective Leisure takes a systems-aware, complexity-informed approach to social enterprise. Our is mission to reduce health inequity within our communities. This is summarised in our purpose statement of “enabling well-being without boundaries”.

A social enterprise is a ‘business for good’ and we are certified by the Australian regulator Social Traders.
