Event description

Wellington Youth Choir is going on tour! This year to the wonderful Whanganui.

We will be presenting our 2022 concert Flecks of Light and Dark for one night only! Directed by Philip Oliver and accompanied by Nick Kovacev this concert showcases a range of music from more classical choral music to arrangements of folk, jazz and musical theatre. This concert takes its name from the lyrics in Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sunday’ and will feature a variety of repertoire from different time periods, genres, and languages. Enjoy the light through pieces like Chris Artley’s ‘I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes’, Faure’s gorgeous ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’, and Harry Somers’ arrangement of the Newfoundland folk song ‘Feller from Forturne’ and the dark through pieces such as ‘Loch Lomond’ and Cole Porter’s ‘Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye’.

We are lucky enough to be joined by local choir AwaSide from Whanganui High School!

Wellington Youth Choir is a self-run, mixed group of singers between the ages of 18 and 27. It is made up of 30 university students and young professionals living in the Wellington region. The choir provides a bridge between school and community choirs for young singers. As well as giving experienced singers the opportunity to continue singing to a high standard, the choir is also a good place for those who are wanting to get involved in choral singing for the first time.
