Wynnum Boardwalk Bird Walk

Join us for an afternoon bird walk along the Wynnum Mangrove Board Walk, and enjoy spotting birds from the on-site bird hide.  This event is free and open to LGBTQIA+ folks and allies of all experience levels.

Imagine a single place where you can wander through open grasslands, bushland, tidal wetlands and mangroves, with the bonus of a bird hide tucked away for quiet observation! That’s exactly what you’ll find on the shores of Moreton Bay, just south of the Port of Brisbane. The mangrove boardwalk stretches for approx. 600 metres and changes character with the tide, revealing mudflats and feeding birds at low tide, then transforming into a serene waterway at high tide. Between a rich mangrove ecosystem, bird hide, lagoon, surrounding bush and grassland, as well as an eBird count of 192, there are plenty of opportunities for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike. 

📍Find Us: We will meet at the Wynnum North Conservation Site at 2pm. Google Maps link here. There should be ample parking, however there is no direct public transport, so carpooling is encouraged.

Accessibility: Whilst this location does have paved paths and a well maintained boardwalk, the areas in between the bird hide and boardwalk do contain gravel walkways, and steep yet short inclines/ declines may be encountered throughout the walk. We welcome those of all ages joining us out in nature, but please note anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a trusted adult. This is a pet-free event.

Facilities: There are no public toilets available at this location. The location does have shaded areas and drinking bubblers. There are no food or drink facilities. 

Safety: Please be mindful of snakes, leeches, ticks, mosquitoes, midges, and other insects. Please dress sun safe and wear enclosed footwear.

Please Bring: Hat, SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, plenty of water, and enclosed/comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars and/or a camera with long-range zoom are highly recommended. For those wanting to attend but not walk, you’re welcome to bring a picnic blanket/chair and any other activities you wish!
